Argentine soccer returns with a wave of Covid-19

The return to activity in some Argentine soccer campuses showed a complicated outlook as to be expected in terms of coronavirus analysis: at least 68 players registered Covid-19 detectable this Monday in ten of the Professional Football League (LPF) campuses that began with their tasks, according to the official report of the clubs at the beginning of the preparation with a view to the 2022 season.

The Vélez campus was the most affected in this return with a dozen positive cases. This situation caused the preseason to begin with just 14 professional footballers, half of those summoned by coach Mauricio Pellegrino, who also could not be in charge of training because he was infected with coronavirus.

From the positive results, the affected footballers immediately returned to their respective homes to begin isolation, without symptoms and under the control of the Velez medical body.

Sarmiento presented one less case, who began the preseason of his professional team on Monday with 11 new coronavirus infections, in addition to that of his recent hiring, the experienced forward Lisandro López, reported by the club on Sunday. According to what the entity highlighted, all players present the complete vaccination scheme.

Another strongly affected club was Godoy Cruz, who presented seven infections on his first day of preseason. For this reason, the players could not practice under the orders of coach Diego Flores, who also could not count on two of his collaborators, who were reported as close contacts.

Meanwhile, Aldosivi de Mar del Plata reported seven positives; Platense registered six new infections; Boca reported another seven, in addition to that of Eduardo Salvio (isolated in Portugal) and, as if that were not enough, Frank Fabra and coach Sebastián Battaglia presented symptoms, despite the fact that the antigen test gave them negative. In addition, Lanús, Argentinos and Racing had three cases, and Newell’s added two.
