Argentine brains that strengthen Dominican soccer

From Argentina, the champion country of the Soccer World Cup Qatar 2022, Cibao FC imports the thinking brains that lead the eleventh orange, in the championship of the Dominican Soccer League (LDF 2023), which began on March 16.

There are four thinking heads that come from the South American country, where legendary soccer figures such as Diego Armando Maradona, Mario Kempes, Alfredo Di Stefano, Gabriel Batistuta and currently Lionel Messi have come from.

Although the Cibao FC club comes from winning the last two consecutive championships with the Argentine Jorge Alfonso, it appeals to his compatriot Gabriel Martínez Poch, to seek the third consecutive and fourth title in its history.

Martínez Poch, the new Technical Director, gives the three-time champions more offensive, as has been demonstrated in the first 12 games of the eleventh in Santiago.

A whopping 22 goals in the 12 challenges are a clear indication that the order of the Argentine coach is to kick or head every time the goal and the opponent’s territory are invaded.

Those 22 goals have been distributed among 11 players, between defenses and attackers, where the work of the master Oscar Florencio is amazing, virtuous with the defense but who has 3 goals scored.

Colombian Juan David Díaz, hired to contribute the goals, has the most in the club with 4, although he missed two games due to expulsion.

The rookie Yunior Peralta, who was in the U-20 World Cup in Argentina, Erick Japa and Carlos “Caballo” Ventura, have 3 goals scored each. The promising Ángel Montes de Oca, who was also in the World Cup, joins Julio César Murillo, Jean Carlos López and Charles Herold Jr., and the rookies Edwarlyn Reyes and Lucas Bretón, with one each.

Contrary to this copious offensive, the orange goal, guarded by Miguel Lloyd, has only been violated on 4 occasions, for an extraordinary positive of plus 18.

As early as this weekend, Cibao FC could secure their qualification to the Liguilla, where the first 6 places of the 9 clubs that see action are invited.

The Orange Fever has 8 wins, 3 draws and one loss to add 27 points at the top of the standings.

“I am working very well because from the beginning I was impressed by the professionalism of each of the players,” says the man who plots the club’s attacks and defense.

Martínez Poch excelled in youth soccer in Argentina, he is a physical education teacher and Technical Director of the Argentine Soccer Association (AFA).

IN ATHLETICS

Martínez Poch gained notoriety in his country, but not as a soccer player, but as a track and field athlete.

In a single day, he won five athletics championships, as well as breaking the national record for the 110-meter hurdles and the South American long jump.

ARGENTINE LEGION

But the DT of Cibao FC is not alone, from the land of the gauchos he has his namesake Gabriel Fernández, who is the Director of Sports, a position he has held since 2021.

Fernández has been part of the last two cups that Cibao FC has lifted, to be the maximum with three in just eight seasons.

Also part of the orange squad is Miguel Ángel Restelli, who acts as Technical Assistant and Grassroots Football Coordinator.

Martín Serrano, another lover of the albiceleste joined Cibao FC this year as a physical trainer.

GREAT INCENTIVE

It must be a great incentive for the Argentines who are in the team, the visits of the former president of the nation Mauricio Macri.

Last year, Macri visited the Cibao FC facility and this 2023 he had another presence in the Dominican Soccer League (LDF).

Macri is also the former president of the emblematic Boca Juniors team, one of the great clubs in the soccer world.
