“Argentine Bellingham” fails in the Premier League

Chelsea made a big investment last winter, signing Enzo Fernández for a significant sum, but after a year in London the Argentine has failed to live up to expectations. Although he was an outstanding World Cup winner, his performances in the “blue” team have been declining and coach Mauricio Pochettino does not even consider him to be uncontroversial.

The cost of his transfer, which amounted to 120 million euros, caused great expectations among fans and the Chelsea board. However, over time, Enzo Fernández failed to maintain the honors expected of him, contrary to his performance in the Argentine national team.

Recently, during the match against Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup, Pochettino made the surprising decision to substitute Enzo in the 63rd minute despite his team being behind on the scoreboard. This wasn't the only sign of his lack of impact on the field, as his performances in recent months have been inconsistent. Although he scored against Preston in the FA Cup last week, he had previously been relegated to the bench in important games such as the game against Luton or Newcastle at Stamford Bridge. In addition, he had to miss several weeks due to an injury at the end of last year.

The competition at Stamford Bridge is very tough

His stats in the Premier League are disappointing, with just two goals in 17 games and no assists. His influence on the game has diminished significantly and players like Moisés Caicedo and Gallagher have gained ground in the fight for a place in the starting XI. Despite being a strategic and expensive signing, Enzo Fernández's role at Chelsea is far from what was expected and his presence in the team appears to be increasingly relegated to a secondary role.
