Argentina became the number one of the Men’s Softball World Rankings, after the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced the updated ranking of the discipline. Our country surpassed Japan and reached the top of the table for the first time, marking a new milestone in the history of Argentine sports.
“This is an achievement for all of Argentine softball, as it crowns many years of serious work, responsible and planned from the bottom up to high performance, with great support from various actors, such as ENARD and the Sports Secretariat, among others”, said Jacinto Cipriota, President of the Argentine Softball Confederation. “The ranking includes all international tournaments in a period of four years -and in all categories-, which marks our regularity and permanence in the elite of our sport, and today positions Argentina as the best men’s softball program in the world”.
The Senior Men’s National Team of Argentina currently holds all the titles to which a country of the American continent can aspire. Argentina won the 2019 World Cup, the gold medal at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, and the 2022 Pan American Championship, recently held in the city of Paraná, Entre Ríos.
The WBSC Men’s Softball World Rankings include all World Cups, Pan American Games, Pan American Championships and South American Championships, played in the last four years, in all categories -including Under-18, Under-23 and Seniors-, as well as all events and matches sanctioned by the WBSC.
The ranking, published on the WBSC website, indicates that Argentina has not dropped below fifth place in all international competitions disputed in the last four years, including five podiums and three titles (those mentioned in the 2019 World Cup, Lima 2019 Pan American Games and 2022 Pan American Championship).
From October 22 to 30 of this year, Argentina will host the inaugural edition of the WBSC Men’s Softball U-23 World Cup in the city of Paraná, Entre Ríos, with the participation of the 12 best teams in the world. In addition, this year our team will defend its world title in the city of Auckland, New Zealand, from November 26 to December 4.
This year our country will also compete in the U-18 and U-23 Pan American Championships, both
qualifiers for the World Cups of their category, which will also impact the WBSC ranking.
In the female branch, Argentina will play the Major South American Championship in the city of Buenos Aires (from June 4 to 11), and the Major Pan American Championship, which will qualify for the World Cup of the category.
