Are Sport TV and Netflix illegal? There are also problems to come to Portugal

The European Parliament has just approved the Digital Services Law (DSA), a regulatory agenda that will bring problems to users of transmission Illegal or pirated payment channels. Among these are the pirate netflix, to free live sport tv, as well as the various Pirate IPTV that continue to circulate in Portugal and beyond the borders.

At stake is the Digital Services Act (DSA), the official successor to the European directive that regulated E-Commerce or digital commerce. It is, above all, an initiative to update the legislation in order to adapt the legal framework to this reality in constant evolution and that has changed drastically in recent years, dealing not only with the “Big Tech”, but also of intellectual property.

Redoubled combat against the illicit activities of transmission in Europe

And the European Parliament votes, today and tomorrow, the final text of the Digital Services Law and its amendments. The text may be the newest and most modern regulation on platforms and digital environment that was presented in December 2020 and has a strong focus on social media platforms. https://t.co/lpTdDB9hLK

The proposal is not recent, known since 2020, however updated and rectified on certain points. So, in addition, we have a strong focus on combating websites that provide pirated services such as “free” Sport TV and similar offers.

In other words, we may have problems for those who access these paid content through transmission illegally, or use torrents to download ways to access such content. In Portugal, this black market is quite important and even publicized.

Thus, as the portal first mentions torrent fanatic, members of the European Parliament would approve the revised and updated Digital Services Act (DSA). In essence, we have several measures that aim to strengthen the fight against online piracy.

The approval of the Digital Services Law reinforces the fight against piracy in Europe

On the subject of pirated IPTV, free Netflix or free Sport TV, there are several measures that aim to eradicate this parallel economy. Among the specific measures we have new filters for the automatic analysis of content uploaded to the Internet.

That is to say, a load filter that will reduce, or so it promises, the transmission of closed signal channels (for a fee) over the Internet. In practice, this can suppress not only certain pirated IPTV platforms, but also other illegal alternatives.

Although several of these measures do not reach a consensus, with some MEPs considering this filtering and blocking too excessive, the truth is that the DSA was approved. Thus, the right to pay and use online services anonymously is maintained, but the filters for uploading content to the Internet are applied.

Sport TV and pirated Netflix auto-block filters

In short, online traffic will be automatically analyzed by various content filters that can immediately block any signals deemed illegal. That is, live broadcasts of Sport TV on the Internet, access to Netflix through unofficial channels, as well as other platforms for the illegal distribution of the television signal.

It should also be noted that this action will be carried out at the time of upload, thus preventing said content from reaching the Internet either. Although the user may continue to pay for said services and by doing so anonymously, their distribution will be suppressed.

Needless to say, the DSA vote sparked a lot of prior discussion. This is because a section of MEPs wanted the removal of autoload filters, the dumb load filters. Still, the vote would approve keeping payload filters in the final version of the DSA with a resounding vote of 434 against removing them and 242 in favour.

THE European Pirate Partyu is, of course, one of the main opponents of the implementation of these automatic filters. In fact, the group warns of the various side effects that can result from this scrutiny of content uploaded to the Internet.

On the other hand, entities such as Netflix and Disney have implemented various measures to combat piracy and illegal distribution of content, without ending this scourge. The same applies to Hollywood studios and various sectors of the average.

It should be noted that it will still be necessary to wait for the gradual transposition and application of the anti-piracy measures provided for in the European regulatory framework for national legislation.
