The Ukrainian football scene just got a major boost. Arda Turan, the former Turkish international, is now the head coach of Shakhtar Donetsk. His contract runs until 2027, making him the 39th coach in the club’s history.
Meet the new boss
Turan takes over from Marino Pusic. He was previously with Eyupspor since 2023. The new coach is excited to lead a team with a rich history and big ambitions. “I’m proud to be here,” he said. “Shakhtar is a great club with a lot of traditions. We want to win every game and bring home trophies, both in Ukraine and in European competitions.”
The team has some talented players, including Pedrinho, a former Benfica player. Last season, Shakhtar Donetsk finished third in the championship, behind Dínamo Kiev and Oleksandriya. But they did win the Ukrainian Cup.
