Aragon renews with MotoGP

Aragón, through the Motorland speed circuit in Alcañiz (Teruel), It will continue to be present in the MotoGP World Championship after renewing the contract between the regional government and the organizing company, Dorna, between 2022 and 2026. Aragón has been part of the World Championship since in 2010 it hosted a motorcycling Grand Prix for the first time.

Arturo Aliagavice-president of the Aragonese Executive and president of Motorland, and Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna, signed the new contract on Tuesday in the director’s office in the Pignatelli Building in Zaragoza. The signature of the Vice President of Aragón and President of Motorland and the CEO of Dorna Sports means the extension of the current special sports contract FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix which was signed in September 2016.

For Arturo Aliaga, signing this contract is “an unequivocal sign of the Government of Aragon’s commitment to the Alcañiz circuit”. “We cannot forget that it is a circuit that enjoys great international prestige and extensive experience in organizing this type of event. And we must go further, because the celebration of these great prizes entails an important repercussion, represents an enormous boost both in the territory and in economic activity and projects the image of Aragon throughout the world”, affirmed the Aragonese vice-president.

With the renewal of this contract, Aragón ensures its presence on the MotoGP calendar and map until 2026, in what Aliaga has described as “an agreement based on trust since the circuit hosted the first Grand Prix”. Thus, according to Aliaga, “Aragon appears at the same level as the Spanish team in the advertising of events as often as last weekend’s tennis match.”

In 2022, the commitments are 8 million euros, which will be increased by 3% in the remaining two prizes, with which the Aragonese Community commits an expense of 24 million euros, informs the Executive in a press release. Studies by the Chamber of Commerce show that the impact of holding each grand prize is at least €30 million, to which must be added the media impact that advertising entails in television broadcasts, points out the aforementioned note.

For his part, Carmelo Ezpeleta stressed that this agreement is the result of the relationship that exists between the Government of Aragon and Dorna. “We are delighted to be in Aragon. In the two very difficult years that we have gone through, the presence of Aragón and his help to do the two grand prix of 2020 and the grand prix of 2021, has been very important to be able to move forward”, he affirmed. On the possibility of continuity of the future contract, Ezpeleta said that they will be “in Aragon for as long as Aragon wants. We would like to be in Aragón always.”

With this contract, The Alcañiz layout ensures in this period the celebration of three Grand Prix of Aragon in which each year the different World Cup events are held, an institutional advertising curve and a promotional video for Aragón will be included on the international television signal, with the aim of promoting the “Aragón” brand on its networks, in the Motor GP website, also being present in virtual advertising during the broadcast.
