Aquino hits two home runs and the Licey defeats the Giants

Aristides Aquino homered twice, Ronny Mauricio hit a pair of doubles and the Tigres del Licey came from behind to beat the Gigantes del Cibao 10-8, in a match held at the Julián Javier Stadium.

Aquino hit a three-run homer with the game 2-0 to widen the scoreboard in the first inning and then, with the game 6-5, he turned the score 7-6 in the opening of the seventh inning with his second home run, this time from two laps. Mauricio hit two doubles (7), drove in two runs, scored one and had his sixth multi-hit game, including four three-hit games, to be the most outstanding on offense.

With the victory, the Tigers (11-3) achieved their fourth victory in a row, consolidated in the first position and have now outscored their opponents 32-12 in said streak. In addition, it was the seventh game with double figures in hits for the Tigers.

Right-hander Brooks Hall (0-0, 2.45) started for the Blues and worked two innings in which he allowed a solo homer on pace that struck out one. Hall left the game with an upset stomach. He was followed by relievers Frank Garcés, James Jones, Jonathan Aro, debutant Antonio Santos, Nate Pearson, Adonis Medina, Luis Frías and Jairo Asencio.

Pearson (1-0) was the winning pitcher and Huascar Brazobán (0-1) charged with the backhand.


The Tigers took command of the game in the very first inning, when Ronny Mauricio singled with runners on second and first, Pavin Smith singled to center that drove in the second and Aristides Aquino hit a three-run homer.

The Giants discounted in the closing of the first inning, when Tito Polo hit a solo home run.

In the fourth inning and with runners on second and first, Iván Castillo singled to center and Juan Francisco scored due to an oversight by the blue defense and Tito Polo got an infield hit with the bases loaded.

In the bottom of the fifth, Kelvin Gutiérrez hit a solo home run to bring the locals closer on the scoreboard. In the sixth inning and with runners on the corners, Carlos Peguero failed with a fielder’s choice and Kelvin Gutiérrrez reached base on an error on a third baseman’s throw and the runner from first scored with the sixth local run.

Leading off the seventh, Aristides Aquino hit his second home run of the game to turn the score around, and one inning later, Dawel Lugo singled with a runner at first, which he scored on a right fielder’s error on the drive, and Ronny Mauricio singled with runner on third.

In the top of the ninth and with runners on third and second, Michael De Leon hit a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the ninth act and with a teammate on board, Carlos Paulino hit a home run that brought the Giants closer.


For the Tigers, Ronny Mauricio 5-3 with two doubles, one run scored and two RBIs, Aristides Aquino 5-2 with two home runs, two runs scored and five RBIs, Pavin Smith 4-3 with one run scored, one RBI and one ticket received and Emilio Bonifacio 4-1 with two runs scored and a transfer.

For the Giants, Tito Polo 3-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs and Kelvin Gutiérrez 5-1 with runs scored and RBI.


The next commitment of the Tigres will be this Thursday, November 3, when they visit the Leones del Esgido, in a match scheduled for 7:15 at night.
