April 2023 Pink Moon: When Is It and What Does It Mean?

There are other names for the phenomenon of the pink moon: depending on the region, it is also called the Moon of the sprouting grass, the Moon of the egg and, among coastal tribes, the Moon of the fish.

The astronomical event of the April Full Moon or Pink Moon can be observed on the 6th of April, coinciding with the Catholic Holy Week, announcement NASA on Monday.

According to the US agency, the phenomenon will begin at sunset on Wednesday, April 5, and will culminate at dusk on Thursday, April 13 (Eastern Time in North America). The Pink Moon will reach its maximum illumination at 04:35 GTM next Thursday, April 6th, and will appear full for three days at that time.

The spectacular phenomenon can be seen all over the planet, especially in the northern hemisphere. It should be noted that the satellite does not acquire a pink color, but its hue is related to the pink moss or wild phlox plant, a plant native to the eastern United States, which sags in early spring.

Other names for this moon depend on the region and include Grass Moon, Egg Moon, and, among coastal tribes, Fish Moon, as it coincides with the time when the shad swim upriver to spawn.

The Pink Moon is also called the Easter Moon, as in the Christian liturgical calendar it coincides with Holy Week, as the religious feast is celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring.
