Codenamed IronHeart, Apple wants the CarPlay app to have access to various car functions so that it can control them. These functions include the tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauges, seats, temperature, defrost systems, and audio settings (surround sound, equalizers, tweters, subwoofers, etc.).

Automakers may be wary of Apple’s market entry
If the IronHeart project is successful, Apple could turn the CarPlay app into an interface to control a large part of the car’s functions. On the other hand, the Cupertino company can also use the collected data to develop more car applications or to add more functionality to CarPlay.
The new secret project may indicate that Apple intends to develop more functions for cars, in addition to CarPlay, which was already launched in 2014. This is because brands like Tesla and Ford prefer to develop their own in-car entertainment and control systems.
