Apple has introduced a new MagSafe-compatible iPhone accessory specifically designed to enhance accessibility for users with disabilities, developed in partnership with Los Angeles designer Bailey Hikawa.
The Hikawa Phone Grip & Stand aims to assist individuals who experience muscle weakness, reduced hand and finger dexterity, or difficulty holding a phone steady. Its launch coincides with the 40th anniversary of accessibility device development.
Designer Bailey Hikawa spent years developing sculptural and ergonomic iPhone grips. Her primary goal was to create a device easy for all hand types to hold, moving beyond mere aesthetics. This design philosophy garnered significant interest from Apple.
The accessory features an unusual, soft silicone-like appearance with a central recess. It is engineered to offer flexibility with slight resistance, reducing the effort required by the user.
It is available in bright Chartreuse, a neon green-yellow color for enhanced visibility, and a more subdued Crater tone, which appears to be made from recycled materials. The Hikawa Phone Grip & Stand is priced at $69.95.
The device is compatible with iPhone 12 models and newer, as well as MagSafe-compatible cases. Hikawa also offers two special edition colors, Cobalt Blue and Blurple Swirl, through her personal website.
This release is part of Apple’s ongoing strategy to develop high-end accessories for its iPhone line. The company recently collaborated with Japanese fashion brand ISSEY MIYAKE on the iPhone Pocket.
The iPhone Pocket is a single-piece, 3D knitted fabric accessory designed to stretch and stylishly hold an iPhone and AirPods. It is available for $149.99.
