Production of Apple’s long-awaited virtual reality and augmented reality headsets is being significantly delayed.
At the root of the problem are overly complex design requirements. Apple’s ambition could lead to production starting much later than expected.
The complete ecosystem of hardware, software and services underpins Apple headphones
Apple’s virtual reality and augmented reality headsets have been talked about for a long time and have been expected accordingly. But it looks like the wait will be even longer than expected.
According to well-known technology analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the equipment will only enter production in the fourth quarter of 2022, as the company planned to start manufacturing in the second quarter of the same year.
Ming-Chi Kuo argues that the source of this significant delay is Apple’s overly complex industrial design requirements. According to the same analyst, the Cupertino company aims to have a complete ecosystem of hardware, software and services available, ready for the launch of the headphones. The result of this ambition is a substantial delay in the team’s production.
Apple wants its AR / VR headsets to work in multiple applications
The analyst goes further in his convictions and says that Apple does not want its headphones to work only for games, with the intention that they are prepared to work in other categories and applications.
There’s little information about Apple RA / VR headsets, knowing only that they can come equipped with 4000-dot-per-inch displays and advanced LiDAR readers. Regarding the price, it is speculated that they may appear on the market at a cost of $ 3,000, that is, approximately 2,590 euros.
Ming-Chi Kuo has been a household name among Apple fans since 2011 when he correctly predicted that the white iPhone 4 would have a launch delay. Most recently, it revealed details of the iPhone SE and the Apple Watch Series 2 that were confirmed at the launch of both devices.
