Apple: What we know so far about the Watch Series 8

On September 7, the new Watch Series 8 will be presented alongside the iPhone 14 at a virtual conference.

Once again, Apple chose the month of September to reveal its innovations in the mobile device segment. We have gathered in this article all the rumors that, over time, have lifted the veil a bit on what we can expect to see in the new Watch Series 8.

Apple retains the design of the previous generation

Apparently, the new series of smart watches from Apple will keep the design of the previous version, without making any changes to the model’s chassis.

But the ShrimpApplePro leaker has been advancing that a flat screen is being produced that could be one of the novelties included in the Watch Series 8.

If this data is confirmed, we are facing the only change visible to the naked eye operated on the model.

The big news will be a new “robust” Watch Series 8

The big news in the new generation of Apple’s smartwatch should be the introduction of a new “robust” model, intended for the practice of extreme sports. This model will have a more resistant chassis, made of titanium alloy, and a larger screen.

The new variant will be almost two inches diagonal, which will increase the screen area by about 7%, and a resolution of 502×410 pixels.

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple can use this additional area to display a larger number of sports metrics on the screen at the same time.

There is no information on the specific name of the model, which is only known as “robust”, but it is already known that it will be the most expensive variant of the series. For this reason, Apple will only make one million units available, explains Gurman.

Processor and low power mode

According to the rumors spread so far, the Watch Series 8 will arrive equipped with the S8 processor that will have the same specifications as the S7 chip. For this reason, no major changes in performance or speed of the handheld are expected.

But one of the novelties may be the introduction of a new low-power mode. This feature will allow you to use more features while preserving battery life.

Health-focused resources

According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple will have developed several novelties in the field of health. However, the same source warns that not all these resources have managed to be ready in time to join the new generation.

The great novelty will be the integration of a temperature sensor that will be able to determine if the user has a body temperature higher than normal.

But beware: the new sensor will not be able to provide an exact measurement and, at an early stage, may even have this feature disabled. According to the latest rumors, at launch the sensor will only be able to follow the woman’s fertility cycle, and later, who knows in the Watch Series 9 generation, it will be able to expand its range of action.

Sleep apnea and car accident detection

There is also talk that Apple will optimize the oxygen sensor to detect sleep apnea. However, it is not guaranteed that this function is already integrated, as it significantly drains battery life.

Likewise, Apple will also have optimized the accelerometer so that it can measure the peak of gravitational force during the occurrence of a traffic accident. In this way, the smart watch would be able to automatically contact the emergency services to provide assistance in the event of an accident.

atrial fibrillation

As seen in the watchOS 9 operating system, Apple has added a new feature to the atrial fibrillation feature. It is now possible to control how often the user goes into atrial fibrillation and for how long.

sports resources

According to Mark Gurman, the new generation of Apple smartwatches will feature major upgrades in sports features. Which is not surprising, since it can even introduce a new variant dedicated to extreme sports.

Unfortunately, Apple has managed to keep these new features under wraps and there is no rumor specifying, in more detail, the new features included.

Apple Watch SE 2

According to Mark Gurman, in addition to a new rugged variant of the Watch Series 8, Apple may also reveal the Watch SE 2. This will be a more affordable version of the smartwatch, with updated specs compared to the previous model.

On September 7 we will be able to confirm (or not) all this information with the official presentation of the new Apple Watch Series 8.
