Apple has launched a new hypertension notification system for its WatchOS 26, aiming to alert users to potentially elevated blood pressure readings through compatible devices.
The feature is available on the latest Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Series 11, extending to older models like the Series 10, Series 9, and Ultra 2.
To utilize the new monitoring, users must have an iPhone 11 or newer running iOS 26.
Strict eligibility criteria apply: users must be at least 22 years old, not pregnant, and without a pre-existing hypertension diagnosis. Apple also requires the Watch’s pulse detection to be active.
Activation involves opening the Health app on the iPhone, tapping the profile icon, and selecting “Hypertension Notifications” from the Health App Checklist. Users must confirm their age and any prior hypertension diagnosis before proceeding.
A crucial 30-day analysis period is required after activation before notifications become active. During this time, the Apple Watch collects optical heart sensor data.
This data is analyzed to identify recurring patterns indicative of hypertension. The system conducts these evaluations in successive 30-day cycles.
Apple directs users to its official support documentation for comprehensive technical details and compatibility information.
