Apple Upgrades iPhone 17 Line with 120Hz Refresh Rate Displays

Apple’s next move is to upgrade its iPhone displays. The company plans to give all four iPhone 17 models, set to launch in late 2025, 120Hz refresh rate screens. This means even the standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will get smoother displays. But there’s a catch – only the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will get the advanced ProMotion technology.

ProMotion is what sets Apple’s high-end iPhones apart. Introduced with the iPhone 13 Pro in 2021, it adjusts the refresh rate to match the content on the screen, saving power and reducing eye strain. The iPhone 14 Pro took it further, supporting refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz.

The standard 120Hz screens on the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will still be an upgrade, but they’ll be limited to 60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz refresh rates. In contrast, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will get LTPO panels with ProMotion, which can drop to lower refresh rates to conserve power and support always-on displays.

This move is Apple’s response to mid-range phones from other brands that already offer 120Hz screens. By giving its standard models a boost while keeping the Pro line distinct, Apple can stay competitive and maintain its market edge.

It’s not all good news, but Apple is finally moving beyond 60Hz screens. With 120Hz displays across the board, its iPhones can better compete with premium Android devices.
