Apple unveiled new iPad Pro models featuring its next-generation M5 chip, significantly boosting artificial intelligence capabilities and connectivity, with pricing starting at approximately $1,200.
The Cupertino giant highlighted the M5 chip as a major leap for AI performance in its tablets. Each core of the device’s graphics processing unit (GPU) includes a neural accelerator. This enhancement is designed to improve performance across complex projects and AI-driven productivity tasks.
Apple states the new models offer up to 3.5 times more AI performance than the previous iPad Pro with the M4 chip. This represents up to a 5.6-fold increase compared to the iPad Pro equipped with the M1 chip.
Connectivity also sees significant upgrades. The new N1 network chip, developed by Apple, introduces Wi-Fi 7 support to the iPad Pro lineup. For cellular-enabled models, the integrated C1X modem provides up to 50 percent faster mobile data speeds than its predecessor. It also boasts improved energy efficiency.
The new tablets will run iPadOS 26, which introduces several interface and functionality updates. The operating system features a refreshed design with “Liquid Glass” and a more intuitive windowing system.
Users will find a new menu bar and enhancements to the Files application. A new Preview app for viewing and editing PDF documents is also included.
Apple Intelligence is deeply integrated, bringing real-time translation to FaceTime, Messages, and Phone applications. It also adds automation for Shortcuts and automatic categorization for Reminders, all designed with user privacy in mind.
The new iPad Pro is available in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, featuring an Ultra Retina XDR display for a premium visual experience. Users can connect external displays up to 120 Hz, a feature beneficial for video editing and gaming, supported by Adaptive Sync for reduced latency.
The devices will be offered in Space Black and Silver finishes. Storage options include 256 GB, 512 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB.
The new iPad Pro maintains compatibility with existing accessories. These include the Apple Pencil Pro, Apple Pencil (USB-C), Magic Keyboard, and Smart Folio.
Pre-orders for the new iPad Pro began today. The devices are slated to become available in stores starting October 22.
Initial pricing for the 11-inch model begins at approximately $1,208 USD. The larger 13-inch model starts at roughly $1,583 USD. These prices reflect initial market figures for countries like Portugal.
