Apple is changing its iPhone release schedule for next year. The company plans to launch a foldable iPhone, along with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Air. The regular iPhone 18 will be delayed until spring 2027 and will be released alongside the budget iPhone 16E.
The foldable iPhone will have a book-style design, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold. It will feature a 5.7-inch screen when closed and a nearly 8-inch display when open. According to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the device is expected to be 4.5–4.8mm thick when unfolded and will use Face ID instead of Touch ID.
Other iPhone 17 and 18 series features are also being reported. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to have a new battery case, as testing showed its battery life would be shorter than previous models. The iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max will reportedly feature under-display Face ID sensors, leaving only a small hole for the front-facing camera.
iPhone Release Schedule Changes
Apple’s plan to release six iPhone versions next year is behind the schedule change. The company is adjusting its strategy to make the launch more manageable. This change is likely due to the introduction of the foldable iPhone, which will be a new product category for the company.
Upcoming iPhone Features
Some other features expected in the upcoming iPhone models include:
- A new design for the iPhone Air
- Improved cameras on the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max
- Under-display Face ID sensors on the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max
These changes are expected to be part of Apple’s efforts to stay competitive in the smartphone market.
