Apple: this announcement of the new iPad Air does not make any sense (video)

“Your next computer isn’t a computer,” is the tagline in the latest ad for the new iPad Air, launched during Apple’s Peek Performance event in early March.

The message this ad seems to want to convey is that a teenager can have a computer on their new iPad Air that isn’t quite a computer, but can do everything for them.

It’s interesting and ironic from the start that there isn’t a single smartphone to use in the video. As if suddenly, in an alternate world, every teenager had their device of choice on the tablet.

And then they can use an iPad Air for all their student assignments. And maybe they can. But is it worth it or do they really need it?

The new iPad Air arrives on the market with an M1 processor, which gives it high performance, but the limitations of an iPad Air. The main one is iPadOS, which has limitations compared to macOS.

More than that, some users appear in the video with the Apple Pencil or Magic Keyobard attached to the tablet. Which would necessarily make the starting price of €709 jump over four digits.

MacBook Air is the real choice for students

And then we get into the realm of the MacBook Air which has the exact same processor, but has a bigger screen and always-on keyboard. Better than that, there’s macOS.

Unless a teenager is really a fan of having a tablet and an Apple Pencil, his next computer can hardly be a computer and be this iPad Air. Unless you don’t like productivity.
