Apple is rolling out a new beta version of its iOS operating system, delivering expanded linguistic capabilities for its artificial intelligence and translation services alongside enhanced user controls and personalization options.
The fourth beta of iOS 26.1 significantly broadens the reach of Apple Intelligence, now supporting languages including Traditional Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese, Swedish, Turkish, and Vietnamese. This marks a push to make AI functionalities more accessible to a wider global user base.
Similarly, the AirPods Live Translation feature has been updated to include Simplified and Traditional Mandarin Chinese, Italian, Japanese, and Korean. These additions aim to improve real-time communication for users worldwide.
Users will also gain more control over their device interactions. The update introduces an option to disable the swipe gesture that opens the camera from the lock screen. This addresses concerns about accidental camera activation.
A new “Liquid Glass” visual setting allows for greater personalization of the user interface. This option, found in display settings, modifies the opacity and background coloration of elements like notifications and separator bars, offering a choice between transparent or slightly tinted styles.
The beta also brings several refinements to core applications. The Apple TV app has been rebranded, dropping the “Plus” from its name and featuring a new icon.
A new “Local Capture” section in general settings provides users with options to change where capture files are saved and to enable audio-only recordings. The alarm interface has been updated to include a “Slide to Unlock” dismissal method.
Additionally, the Music app now supports a swipe gesture for changing tracks. This version follows one week after the previous beta release, indicating Apple’s continuous development cycle.
