Apple Preps Smart Glasses to Battle AI Wearables Rivals

Apple is rumored to be working on a pair of “smart glasses” that could be released as early as next year. According to Mark Gurman, a reliable source at Bloomberg, the tech giant is aiming to launch the smart glasses in late 2026. The device is expected to feature a camera, microphone, and speaker, allowing users to interact with Siri using just their voice.

Users will be able to use the smart glasses to listen to music, take phone calls, and even receive turn-by-turn directions. This isn’t Apple’s first attempt at developing augmented reality (AR) glasses, but the company has faced challenges in creating AI that can compete with its rivals.

We may get a glimpse of Apple’s AI plans at the upcoming WWDC 2025 conference, but some are skeptical after the company’s previous Apple Intelligence software was slow to launch. Meanwhile, other companies like Meta and Google are already making waves in the smart glasses market.

Meta has seen success with its Ray-Ban partnership, while Google recently showed off its Android XR mixed reality glasses at the I/O conference. Even OpenAI is getting into the hardware game after acquiring io design, a company founded by former Apple designer Jony Ive.

Although Apple is pushing forward with its smart glasses project, it’s reportedly canceled other wearables projects, including an Apple Watch with a camera. However, AirPods with a camera are still said to be in development.

Only time will tell if Apple’s smart glasses will live up to the hype, but one thing is for sure – the company has its work cut out for it if it wants to compete with the likes of Meta and Google. Will Apple’s smart glasses revolutionize the industry once again?
