Apple postpones long-awaited functionality on iPhone and Apple Watch

iOS 15 arrived, in its final version, on compatible iPhones at the end of September. But not all the news previously announced at WWDC reached users at the time of this version of the operating system.

One of these new features was the official introduction of ID cards in the Wallet app (Wallet). It was expected to arrive in late 2021, but Apple delayed that deadline.

ID cards don’t arrive on the iPhone until early 2022

In a discovery made by MacRumors, it can be noted that the official website of iOS 15 has been updated. And if previously the functionality was expected to arrive in “late 2021”, the new description states that it will arrive in “early 2022” .

This feature will allow users from select countries to add digital versions of their ID documents to Wallet. This means that it will be possible to carry documents equivalent to a citizen card or driver’s license in your wallet, since we currently have debit or credit cards.

Once released, this new feature will only be valid in certain airports and regions in the United States. There, users will be able to use the iPhone or Apple Watch to present their identification.

This functionality thus arrives in early 2022, and Apple does not specify the date. However, Cupertino technology is already testing iOS 15.2, which will not yet arrive with this new feature in its final version.

As it happened with payments, we hope that this novelty can also be democratized and reach many other places to facilitate the presentation of identification.
