Apple Orders 15-20 Million Foldable iPhones for Next Year

Apple is gearing up to enter the foldable smartphone market. Recent rumors suggest the company may have ordered between 15 and 20 million foldable iPhones. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from TF International Securities has shared updates on the development of this innovative device. Kuo, known for his accurate predictions about Apple products, posted on X about the potential launch of the foldable iPhone next year.

The phone’s screen will likely be supplied by Samsung Display, which plans to produce around 8 million flexible panels for the new iPhone. However, other crucial components, such as the hinges, are still not finalized. The device is expected to have a “premium” price tag, aligning with Apple’s exclusivity strategy.

Kuo’s predictions include:

  • Assembly supplier Foxconn will start the project in late 3Q25 or early 4Q25
  • Many component specifications, including the hinge, have yet to be finalized

These updates indicate that Apple’s plans for the foldable iPhone are still subject to change.

Apple’s Strategy

The iPhone line accounts for more than half of Apple’s total revenue, with sales reaching $201 billion in the 2024 fiscal year. Despite these impressive numbers, iPhone revenue peaked in 2022. To boost sales, Apple is exploring new ways to attract customers and persuade existing users to invest in more advanced, and expensive, devices. The introduction of a premium foldable iPhone could be a key strategy for Apple to revitalize smartphone sales growth and stand out in an increasingly competitive market through innovation.
