Apparently, Apple is expected to reveal a new variant of the MacBook Air during WWDC next June. This model will stand out from the rest for its 15-inch screen, the largest ever seen in this range of laptops.
For a long time, rumors held that inside we would find the new M3 processor that Apple has not yet presented. However, to the dismay of fans, this thesis should not be confirmed.
15″ MacBook Air with M2 Processor
The data is part of the recent prediction of the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who affirms that the MacBook Air of 15 “will be launched with the chip M2. This is because Apple will not be able to provide a new processor in time for this product.
Kuo also reports that the new MacBook Air will hit stores with two processor offerings. According to him, this should mean the availability of the M2 processor with a different number of cores, and not the presence of an option with M2 Pro.
This change in plans arises because Apple is only expected to start mass production of the new M3 processor in the second half of 2023. That is, it will not be ready in time to integrate the new 15-inch MacBook Air that is scheduled to arrive in stores in June.
The excitement surrounding the new M3 is due to its manufacturing process under 3nm lithography. It will be a major step up from the 5nm lithography used in the M1 and M2.
With a smaller lithograph, the processor will have a higher number of transistors. This means sharper performance and even better energy efficiency.
TSMC’s 3nm lithography should also be used in the development of the new A17 Bionic that will equip the iPhone 15 Pro. In other words, the next generation of Apple processors promises significant leaps in performance and autonomy.
