Apple leaves important notice for those who ride a motorcycle with an iPhone

This week Apple introduced the new iPhone to the public. Four new models were unveiled: iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. In the same week, the company issues some warnings to those who ride motorcycles.

According to the Cupertino-based technology company, “exposure to vibrations such as those generated by high-powered motorcycle engines can affect iPhone cameras,” degrading their performance.

In particular, Apple talks about the possible degradation of important systems like OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and automatic focus (AF). Which, unsurprisingly, were designed to be durable.

“However, as with many consumer electronics products equipped with systems such as the OIS, long-term direct exposure to high amplitude vibrations in certain frequency ranges can degrade the performance of these systems and reduce the image quality of photographs and videos, “says Manzana.

Therefore, it is recommended to “avoid exposing the iPhone to prolonged and powerful vibrations”. For example, “high-power or large-displacement motorcycle engines generate intense, high-amplitude vibrations that are transmitted through the chassis and handlebars.”

Thus, Apple states that “it is not recommended” to couple the iPhone to motorcycles with high power or large displacement engines. Still, vehicles equipped with small displacement or electric motors can cause “comparatively less” amplitude vibrations.

In such cases, Apple advises using a “vibration damping mount” to reduce any risk of damage to the iPhone and its OIS and AF systems.

It is important to note that OIS is available on iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s Plus, and later versions. Closed-loop AF is available on the iPhone XS and later, as well as the second-generation iPhone SE.
