The whispers around Apple’s first foldable phone, often called the iPhone Fold, have been going on for a long time. Some early reports, dating back to 2018, even suggested its arrival. Now, new details are emerging about how Apple plans to build this highly anticipated device.
Well-known analyst Jeff Pu recently shared some inside information. His sources, directly from the production line, say the iPhone Fold will use a mix of titanium and aluminum for its main body. This report did not give any clues about the phone’s overall look.
If this information is true, it shows Apple is really thinking about how strong the iPhone Fold needs to be. A foldable phone must stand up to constant bending and unfolding. This choice of materials is interesting, especially when we look at Apple’s recent decisions for other phones. For example, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, which came out in September 2025, actually switched their body material from titanium to aluminum. The iPhone Air uses titanium, while the entry-level iPhone 17 is made with general metal.

This new report from Jeff Pu goes against what another famous Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, reported earlier. Kuo, who also gets his information from Asian production sources, said the iPhone Fold’s body would be made only from titanium. He added that its hinge, the part that allows it to fold, would use both titanium and aluminum. This difference in reports certainly keeps us guessing about the final design.
Beyond the materials, other rumors offer a peek at the iPhone Fold’s features. It’s expected to have a large 7.8-inch foldable screen on the inside. The outer screen, when folded, might measure 5.5 inches. Interestingly, talk suggests Apple might remove the Face ID sensors. Instead, users could unlock the phone with Touch ID, bringing back an old favorite.
The device is also tipped to run on iOS 27. This operating system will be specially tweaked to work well with a foldable screen. It will allow users to split and manage multiple apps efficiently across the larger display. New features designed just for the folded mode are also expected.
As for the price, rumors suggest it could cost between $2,100 and $2,300. The iPhone Fold is currently slated for a September 2026 launch. It might even debut at the same event as the three iPhone 18 models.
