Cupertino is already working on the next generation of iOS smartphones for 2022, the Apple iPhone 14. According to new information from sources close to the company, one of the “novelties” for the next iteration of Apple’s phone will be the “Touch ID” .
What is at stake is a new type of fingerprint reader, faster and more reliable than current on-screen solutions. In addition, the source is convinced of the presence of this new method of unlocking and authentication in the generation that will succeed the current Apple iPhone 13.
A new type of Touch ID is in the works for 2022
The information has now been published by source LeaksApplePro, indicating that Apple is considering the use of the fingerprint reader on Apple’s iPhone 14 generation. It looks like it will be a new kind of Touch ID, enhanced to be faster and more reliable in 2022.
It should also be noted that this is one of the “trump cards” that users have been asking for, especially in light of current conditions, such as the use of sanitary masks. Thus, the usefulness of an unlocking and authentication aid takes on a whole new, utilitarian, or even urgent dimension.
In other words, the Cupertino giant is effectively contemplating the return of Touch ID. However, this will only happen if the company succeeds in improving the existing technology compared to the current solutions of this technology embedded in the screen.
The Apple iPhone 14 range may have Touch ID again
Currently, Apple uses Face ID as the only biometric authentication and unlocking method for its mobile devices. However, the COVID-19 pandemic raised practical barriers to the use of facial features as a verification mechanism.
Therefore, Apple will work on an alternative solution, using digital printing as the method to do so. For users, such an option would be the return of a simple and familiar mechanism, commonly used in the Android universe.
Therefore, according to the new information, this could effectively be the complementary means of authentication, along with Face ID that will continue to feature prominently on Apple phones. In practice, the two technologies must complement each other.
Thesis defended by Ming-Chi Kuo for the iPhone 2023
Until now, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has been one of the main proponents of this thesis. However, Kuo signals the return of Touch ID only in 2023 with the successors of the Apple iPhone 14 generation.
In addition, Kuo believes that in 2024 Apple is finally ready to introduce its first foldable iPhone, possibly with a new type of screen to improve the current foldable user experience.
Keep in mind, though, that for now, these are just possibilities based on hearsay and guesswork grounded in the history of the American manufacturer. Still, the return of the Touch ID is a possibility that has gained a lot of traction.
Is the return of Touch ID a welcome step for users?
