OR Apple iPhone 13 It is the new base phone of the Cupertino giant, the gateway to the Apple ecosystem and one of the most coveted iOS smartphones of the moment. It was presented last September and brings together several improvements, especially in the quality and capabilities for capturing photography and video, as DxO, responsible for the ranking, now attests. DxOMark.
The highest authority in the evaluation and classification of digital cameras now places the Apple iPhone 13, model standard, above last year’s Pro model. Indeed, the Apple iPhone 12 Pro was outperformed by the 2021 base model.
For this, there are at least two factors that justify the primacy of the most recent base model.
DxOMark gives iPhone 13 an edge over iPhone 12 Pro
Among the factors that contribute to its success, in the new Apple iPhone 13, its main photo module. The phone uses the same sensor present in the iPhone 12 Pro Max, now, however, with Dual-Pixel autofocus to the detriment of the PDAF system. According to DxOMark this is the first of the factors that place it above last year’s Pro model.
It is thanks to this module that the captured light is channeled through a lens with a focal aperture of f / 1.6, reaching a sensor with stabilization technology. Shift sensor to reduce vibrations. The resolution remains at 12 MP. This is the second big reason the new (base) model outperforms the 2020 Pro model.
Also note that the main sensor is accompanied by a secondary, 12 MP, with an ultra wide angle lens. Its lens has an f / 2.4 aperture capable of capturing sharper images and covering a larger area (120 degrees) with the 13mm equivalent lens.

We knew in advance that the iPhone 13 Pro had outperformed the two iPhone 12 Pro models from last year. However, now we see the base model, without considering the iPhone 13 mini, surpassing even the 12 Pro presented in October 2020.
For the biggest photography and Apple device enthusiasts, we highlight our preview news. There you can find the summary of the conclusions of this entity after analyzing the cameras of the phone in question.
In summary, DxOMark gives an overall score of 130 points to the iPhone 13. This is divided into 138 points in the quality of the captured photo.
Therefore, it is one of the highest scores in this segment. In fact, even the zoom performance is noteworthy with 55 points assigned to “zoom”.
Excellent phone for photo capture according to DxOMark

As mentioned above, the iPhone 13 also benefits from Sensor Shift technology introduced in 2020. This translates to better results in both photography and video.
So it’s only natural that we see this clearly higher score on the iPhone 13 compared to last year’s Pro model. In fact, we could still invoke a third factor improving image processing software and the new A15 Bionic processor.
Finally, we see the iPhone 13 and iPhone mini tied for 10th place by DxOMark. A list of the best phones for photography is available, with good surprises, including this year’s releases of Cupertino technology.
