In 2021 the Apple gained more than 165 million subscribers to its various services that are part of the company’s ecosystem. It’s an extremely encouraging result for Tim Cook, who continues to look for new ways to mitigate the company’s reliance on phone-generated revenue. AppleiPhone.
We see, in effect, the gradual transition from a company focused on the sale of products, to a balance with the sale of services based on the subscription model. In short, a source of monthly income with paid subscriptions to services such as Apple Music, iCloud, Arcade, Apple TV + and Arcade.
Apple services grew globally during 2021
The results were presented during Apple’s latest meeting on fiscal results. There, Apple CFO and Senior Vice President Luca Maestri said this growth was steady and global throughout 2021.
“It was a new record for services like iCloud, for Music, for video, for advertising and the respective devices. Therefore, we obtained a result higher than initially expected at the beginning of the last quarter of 2021!”, Luca Maestri pointed out.
165 million more subscribers to Apple services in 2021

The sustained growth of Apple services makes this aspect increasingly profitable. In fact, the Cupertino giant currently has more than 785 million subscribers to its payment services, with an increase of 165 million in the last 12 months.
This is solid growth for this side of the business which, in time, could establish itself as a source comparable to Apple’s iPhone, an objective that would alleviate a substantial part of the dependency on revenue generated by the sale of products.
Tim Cook looks forward to Metaverse and AR apps
It was during this same meeting that Tim Cook was also asked about Apple’s involvement in the “metaverse.” Cook’s response denoted his interest in Augmented Reality (AR), something that the executive never hid.
On the other hand, Cook did not specifically mention this new vector of interest for Mark Zuckerberg’s company, although the mention is implicitly there.
Cook’s words were “We (Apple) are a company dedicated to innovation. We have more than 14,000 applications of Augmented Reality in the App Store”.
Finally, Cook added that Apple sees great potential in the space called metaverse and is “investing accordingly”. One of the examples is its implementation of LiDAR sensors in the Apple iPhone 13 Pro and iPad Pro smartphones, for example.
