Face ID is the latest way to unlock iPhones, released when Apple decided to drop Touch ID on these devices. But since the pandemic emerged, he has always suffered from a problem: masks.
Apple has just released the iOS 15.4 Beta for developers, finally arriving with the most requested feature in Face ID. Now it’s possible to unlock your iPhone, even with a skin on.
Face ID now works with mask in iOS 15.4
Face ID with mask only on iPhone 12 and iPhone 13
However, there is a small caveat that you should be aware of. Face ID was originally released for all models since the iPhone X. However, you will only be able to access this new feature if you have an iPhone 12 or later.
As a user of an iPhone 12 and Apple Pay, this novelty comes in handy. Most of the time, to use Apple Pay, the solution is to slightly lower the mask or enter the security code. And in a service that wants to be fast, this is not the ideal solution.
“Face ID is more accurate when configured for full facial recognition. To use Face ID while wearing a mask, the iPhone will recognize the unique elements around the eyes to authenticate. You must look at your iPhone to use Face ID while wearing a mask,” Apple explains once you turn on the feature.
Another detail is that you can add the glasses you use regularly to the reading of Face ID with a mask. However, please note that Face ID with mask does not support sunglasses.
As I mentioned at the beginning, this feature is available for iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. To activate (for now) on iPhone XS, iPhone 11 and iPhone X.
