Apple Developing AI Web Search for Siri; Rivals Google, OpenAI, Perplexity

We’ve all been waiting for Apple’s new, smarter Siri to arrive on our iPhones. But a recent report suggests Apple’s plans for its digital assistant stretch far beyond what we first heard. Siri is set to get its own web search tool, powered by artificial intelligence.

This isn’t just a small tweak. It’s a major step. Imagine Siri not just answering questions from your phone, but actively searching the internet for answers. This move could put Apple squarely in competition with big names in AI search like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Perplexity. It also challenges Google’s own AI-powered search results.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shared these details. He noted that Apple is working on this new AI web search for Siri. Internally, it’s called “World Knowledge Answers.” It’s not a standard chatbot like ChatGPT. Instead, it uses tracking, regular search, and a large language model (LLM) to pull and present information from the web.

This system is expected to arrive in Spring 2026. It will be part of a big update to Siri. Its main job will be to fetch current information from the internet. Apple might later bring this same search power to Safari and Spotlight on Mac computers.

Surprisingly, the technology behind this new tool could come partly from Google. Reports say Apple and Google just reached a formal agreement this week. Apple will test an AI model built by Google to power Siri’s upcoming update. This suggests a powerful collaboration to make Siri smarter.

The new search will feature an interface that works with text, images, videos, and local points of interest. If results are long, AI will create helpful summaries. This improved search is just one piece of Siri’s huge makeover, which is planned for next year.

Other exciting features are coming too. Siri will learn to understand your personal context. This means it can read and grasp what’s on your screen. It will also perform actions inside apps using a wider range of app interfaces, known as “intents.”

All these changes are planned for an update that will likely be iOS 26.4. It’s set to launch in the spring. More AI features will follow later. These include a major visual redesign for Siri. There will also be an AI-driven health and wellness feature, offered as part of a paid wellness subscription. Lastly, home devices will get a big Siri update, making them much more talkative and useful.
