Apple defeats Samsung and slaughters Xiaomi in the smartphone market

The global smartphone market has been rocked in the fourth quarter of 2021. The latest Canalys analyst report says it puts Apple in the spotlight with a 22% market share.

The Cupertino-based company managed to outperform all rivals. The source points to these numbers due to the high demand for the iPhone 13. However, overall shipments only increased by 1% this quarter, as component shortages continue to be felt due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Apple surpasses Samsung and leaves Xiaomi far behind

Apple not only defeats Samsung, which falls to second place with a 20% market share, but ends up massacring Xiaomi. The Chinese manufacturer has aspirations to reach the first position in the mobile ranking, but in the last quarter of 2021 it had a market share of 12%.

Interestingly, the top five positions are completed by two more Chinese manufacturers. Oppo appears in fourth position with 9%, and Vivo closes the table with an 8% market share in fifth place.

“Apple is back at the top of the smartphone market after three quarters, buoyed by the impressive performance of the iPhone 13,” says Canalys analyst Sanyam Chaurasia.

It’s good to keep in mind that these are preliminary estimates and final results may change slightly. In shipments referring to the fourth quarter of 2021, the numbers of the OnePlus sub-brand are computed in favor of those of Oppo.
