The battle between Epic Games and Apple continues. Epic Games recently announced that Apple blocked Fortnite from resubmitting to the iOS platform. This move has halted Fortnite’s iOS service worldwide.
Apple responded to the allegations through Bloomberg, stating they asked Epic Games’ Swedish branch to remove the U.S. storefront before resubmitting Fortnite. The game is only blocked in the U.S. and remains available on the iOS store elsewhere.
A Longstanding Dispute
The feud between Epic Games and Apple has been ongoing since 2020. Epic Games took Apple to court over what they deemed excessive revenue sharing and introduced direct payment options, bypassing Apple’s systems.
The court ruled that Apple must allow alternative purchase options within apps. Epic Games saw this as an opportunity to bring Fortnite back to iOS in the U.S. However, Apple hasn’t lifted the ban.
Regional Restrictions
Epic Games used its Swedish team to update Fortnite on iOS for European users, but this move led to a recent ban. The ongoing dispute highlights the complexities of app store policies and developer relations.
