Apple is making “progress” on a chip for its upcoming smart glasses, a potential competitor to Meta’s popular Ray-Ban glasses, according to a Bloomberg report.
The chip is being developed based on the one used in Apple Watch but with some parts removed and designed to support multiple cameras.
Production is expected to start by late 2026 or early 2027, which could be when the glasses hit the market.
Augmented Reality Technology
Apple’s smart glasses are said to use augmented reality (AR) technology, similar to Meta’s approach.
Last year, Meta unveiled its Orion glasses, not intended for public sale, but a second generation is planned for 2027.
Beyond smart glasses, Apple is also working on chips for Apple Watch models with cameras and AirPods, with production slated for 2027.
The company is also developing its M-series chips and a separate AI server chip.
