In the film, the actress will be seen playing the character of Jhulan Goswami, a female cricketer from India. Directed by Prosit Roy, Chakda Express is based on the life of Jhulan Goswami, who overcomes obstacles caused by sexist politics to achieve his goal of playing cricket for India. She became the second female cricketer from India to be awarded the Padma Shri in 2012. The film marks Anushka’s return to acting after four years.
