Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is facing fresh legal trouble in Indore, India, following his comments against the Brahmin community, which were made while discussing the delayed release of Anant Mahadevan’s film “Phule.” The controversy began when Kashyap took to social media to express his frustration about the hold-up. His remarks targeted the Brahmin community, and he eventually deleted the post amid a backlash on social media.
People took issue with Kashyap’s comments, and as a result, a complaint was filed against him with the police. On April 19, a new complaint was filed in Indore’s MG Road police station. The officer in charge, Vijay Singh Sisodiya, told ANI news agency that Anup Shukla filed a complaint against Kashyap for hurting the Brahmin community’s feelings with his comments. The police are now investigating.
Lawyer Ashish Rai has also approached the Mumbai police commissioner, seeking action against Kashyap. Earlier, another lawyer, Ashutosh Dubey, filed a complaint against Kashyap in Mumbai. Dubey demanded that Kashyap be booked under relevant laws. He said, “Such hate speech can’t be tolerated in a civilized society. The law must take its course.”
The film “Phule,” starring Praticlekha and Prateek Gandhi, is set to release on April 25. However, the film’s makers had to remove certain words related to caste after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) asked them to do so. Words like ‘Mahar’, ‘Mang’, ‘Peshwai’, and ‘Manu’s caste system’ were removed from the film.
