Anurag Kashyap certainly knows how to get people talking, and his latest film, ‘Bandar,’ is no exception. This new movie, starring Bobby Deol, just had its first showing at the Toronto International Film Festival. The premiere has definitely stirred things up, leading to a lot of chatter and strong opinions.
Some viewers are calling ‘Bandar’ quite daring and even provocative. Others are connecting it to the Me Too movement, labeling it as anti-Me Too. With all this buzz, the director himself has finally shared his thoughts.
Clearing the Air on Me Too
During a recent chat, Anurag Kashyap addressed the criticisms directly. He firmly stated that his film has nothing to do with the Me Too movement. Kashyap explained that discussions like these often pop up when a film tackles themes of false accusations. However, he clarified that Me Too is fundamentally about power dynamics. It’s about someone misusing their position of authority. He stressed that ‘Bandar’ doesn’t touch on that kind of power imbalance or that particular angle. Therefore, he reiterated, the film is not linked to the Me Too campaign.
The Script’s Origin Story
Kashyap also opened up about the making of ‘Bandar.’ He admitted he didn’t have the time to write the script himself. He felt the subject was incredibly tricky. So, he set a condition: he would only direct if Sudip Sharma agreed to write it. Kashyap considers himself lucky that Sudip signed on, and that’s how the film came to life. This project also marks a fresh pairing, as it’s the first time Anurag Kashyap and Bobby Deol have worked together.
What’s Next for the Stars?
Speaking of recent projects, Anurag Kashyap’s last directorial effort, ‘Nishanchi,’ hit theaters just last month. While critics generally loved it, the film didn’t quite make a splash at the box office. Bobby Deol, on the other hand, was recently seen on Aryan Khan’s show, ‘The Bads of Bollywood.’ Fans can also look forward to seeing him in Yash Raj’s upcoming spy universe movie, ‘Alpha.’ He’ll be sharing the screen with Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh in that one.
