Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha is known for showcasing unique stories in his films. His recent movies have focused on social topics where he tries to portray the life of an ordinary man. However, there was a time when he made a romantic film, Tum Bin, which received immense love from the audience. The songs from the film became very popular, and one particular song, “Koi Fariyaad,” sung by legendary singer Jagjit Singh, has stayed in the hearts of people.

How the song ‘Koi Fariyaad’ from the film ‘Tum Bin’ was created:

In an interview with Lallantop, Anubhav Sinha spoke about his film Tum Bin and shared the story behind the making of the song “Koi Fariyaad.” He explained how the lyricist Faiz Anwar wrote the song. The director mentioned, “I explained the entire story and scene of the film to Faiz Anwar for the song ‘Koi Fariyaad.’ I told him to write a ghazal for this. He began writing and would recite verses over the phone, but I kept rejecting them. This went on for months.”

Anubhav Sinha further recalled the moment when he finally liked the ghazal Faiz had written. He said, “I remember the moment clearly; I was on a shoot when my phone rang. Faiz excitedly stuttered my name: ‘Anu… Anubhav Bhai, listen to this sher.’ He doesn’t stutter, that’s just his style.”

He continued, “He recited a verse that went, ‘In a moment, the journey of centuries has been condensed, life seems to have moved very fast.’ I said, ‘Okay.’ I still remember him saying, ‘Anubhav Bhai, I swear by God, this is the 80th sher I’ve written for you.’ I said yes to that 80th sher. And then the ghazal was written. After that, he started coming up with verses like a stream.”

Anubhav Sinha’s story behind making the film ‘Tum Bin’:

Anubhav Sinha also shared the story of how he came to make his first hit film Tum Bin and the reaction he received from the audience. He said, “Bhushan Kumar thought that if we make a film with five or six songs, the money will be recovered through the music. That’s how the film was made. After watching the film, some people said the first half was slow, and others said the second half was slow.”

He further explained, “I remember showing the film to Mr. Boney Kapoor. He said it was a superhit. I asked him how, and he replied, ‘When people say the first half of the film is slow, and the second half is slow, that means the film is a superhit.'”

Tum Bin was released in 2001. With this film, Anubhav Sinha began to make a name for himself in the film industry. After that, he made films like Dus, Cash, and Ra.One. But even then, he wasn’t as big a name in the industry. However, some of his more recent films have brought him recognition, making it hard to believe that he’s been in the Hindi film industry for over 25 years. His recently released web series IC814 has also made him popular across the board.
