Voice Mode Arrives for Chatbot Claude
Anthropic just dropped a major update: voice mode is now available for its chatbot Claude. This means you can have a conversation with Claude using just your voice, getting answers and summaries without needing to type a thing. The feature is currently in beta on mobile, for both iOS and Android, making it way easier to use when your hands are tied up.
Imagine asking Claude to summarize your calendar or search through documents, all with just your voice. That’s now a reality. In a demo posted on X (formerly Twitter), you can see how voice mode works, with Claude helping out with tasks like drafting emails and finding information.
One user on X already got to try out the feature, using it with the Claude Sonnet 4 model. The results? Smooth and natural conversations, just like you were talking to a real person. Plus, you can switch between text and voice modes on the fly, and even review your conversation history.
But here’s the best part: voice mode isn’t just limited to basic conversations. You can use it to work on documents, look at images, and more. There are even five different voice options to choose from, so you can pick the one that feels most natural to you.
So, how does it work? When you use voice mode, Claude will talk back to you, summarizing what it’s found or suggesting next steps. You can then respond with follow-up questions or ask for more information, and Claude will keep the conversation going. For paid users (aka Claude Enterprise customers), you’ll get access to Google Docs, Calendar, Gmail, and web search, too.
This update puts Anthropic in the same league as other AI leaders, like OpenAI and Google, which have already rolled out their own voice features for chatbots. And with rumors of Anthropic talking to Amazon and ElevenLabs about future audio features, it’s clear that voice mode is just the beginning.
