And that’s not so bad. It’s now official: It’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever which will close phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A somewhat special phase which marked the transition between the Saga of the Infinity Stones and the one to come which will see Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) fight with the avengers. First upcoming film for the fifth era of superheroes: Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. Scheduled for February 17, 2023the film should change the course of the mcu for ever. When 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, Peyton Reedthe director of the film, has announced that a permanent change will turn the world of Earth-616 and Scott Lang will be at the heart of it all.
In the few leaked images of the trailer at Comic Con, we see elements that announce the color. At the end of the trailer, Ant Man confronted kang. The latter ends up laconically by answering him “I already killed you” when Scott tells him to be a Avenger. A way for Marvel to establish its impressive villain as the new focal point of its cinematic universe.
As for rumours, Correy Stoll will return in his costume Yellowjacket but it is understood that it will become MODOK, for still anecdotal use. In any case, Peyton Reed explained at length toEntertainment Weekly why Quantumania would be a deep shift to a more epic dimension than the two Ant Man previous:
“Well, I think we were excited to be able to do a third Ant-Man movie and do a trilogy. And we knew if we were going to do that, we wanted to do some things differently. We really wanted to take a left turn and make a film that was even more epic, but still carried forward the story of these family dynamics. […] And we also knew we wanted to pit our heroes against a very, very formidable opponent, and we were very lucky. I grew up reading the comics and I knew the character of Kang the Conqueror who is one of the big, big bad characters in the comics so to be able to pit our heroes against Kang the Conqueror in this movie was a huge thing for us. So we have become big and we have also become small.
Peyton Reed also explained that “many characters will be introduced” and that all the protagonists will spend a little more time within the Quantum Realm. Finally, he also spoke about Cassie Langdaughter of Scottwho would go on to form a trio with his father and The Wasp, (in view of a future perspective to appear in a Young Avengers?). In the meantime, the next Marvel to discover rest Black Panther 2on November 9th.
