The virus was found in wild birds in Argentina, while dead swans in Uruguay tested positive.

Instead of focusing prevention efforts during the spring migration season for wild birds, farmers should view the disease as a serious threat year-round, experts cautioned.

Last year, the poultry industry was severely damaged by the spread of avian flu in the United States, Britain, France and Japan.
