Anker Recalls Over 1 Million PowerCore Power Banks Due to Fire Risk

A major recall is underway for a popular portable power bank due to fire hazards. Anker, a leading tech company, is recalling its PowerCore 10000 power bank, model A1263, after reports of lithium-ion battery issues.

The recall affects over 1 million units sold in the US between 2016 and 2022. If you own one, check the brand name “Anker” on the front, the model number “A1263”, and the serial number “SN” on the bottom.

To see if your power bank is on the recall list, check the serial number on Anker’s website.

What to do

If your power bank is recalled, Anker will give you a $30 gift card, which is more than the original price of the power bank. You can use it on their website or choose a free replacement power bank with a 10,000mAh capacity.

To return your power bank, send a photo of it with the date and the word “recall” written on it, along with a photo of the model and serial numbers. You’ll also need a receipt to confirm your purchase.

Safety first

When you confirm your power bank is on the recall list, safely dispose of it. Do not throw it away in the trash, recycling bin, or a battery box.

Old power banks, especially those with lithium-ion batteries, can overheat or swell. Consider switching to solid-state batteries, which are more efficient, safer, and last longer, although they’re more expensive.
