Animoca Brands takes over developer behind MotoGP game

Animoca Brands has announced another major acquisition for its growing portfolio of gaming subsidiaries.

Increase mobile gamer engagement

For example, it has become known that WePlay Media has been taken over by Animoca Brands. WePlay Media is the developer of the popular blockchain game ‘MotoGP Championship Quest’. The acquisition is reportedly intended to increase user engagement in motorsport mobile gaming. WePlay Media co-founder Graeme Warring is excited about the new development taking place, mainly as they are now expanding their reach to motorcycle fans around the world. He said the following:

Animoca Brands has the ability to reach hundreds of millions of users in its core growth demographic to expand the sport’s fan base and create engagement opportunities for the riders, teams and sponsors.

Likewise, Yat Siu, the co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, highlighted the potential engagement boost of the acquisition of MotoGP and other motorsport-related games under Animoca.

Regular participation in competitive gaming

According to MotoGP’s latest Global Fan Survey, their community is engaged and interested in regular participation in competitive mobile gaming. Reportedly, 79% of all respondents between the ages of 16 and 24 would play competitive gaming on a weekly basis, with the majority (54%) of fans in the Asia-Pacific region.

Animoca has demonstrated significant investment in the development of the motorsports gaming sector as it has introduced a motorsports-based REVV token reward ecosystem and NFT programs within the MotoGP game.

Multiple acquisitions

Animoca has already made several acquisitions during this year. For example, in April they acquired Eden Games, which developed Gear.Club and some other popular racing games. They also acquired Grease Monkey Games in August, to develop the blockchain motorsport game Torque Drift 2.
