Angels sweep Yankees; Ward and Rengifo homer, Silseth strikes out 10

Taylor Ward and Luis Rengifo homered, Chase Silseth dished out a career-high 10 strikeouts in his first start in seven weeks, and the Los Angeles Angels beat the New York Yankees 7-3 on Wednesday night to complete a series sweep.

The Angels swept the three-game series against the Yankees for the first time since 2009. They have won four of five games to get back above .500 (49-48).

Giancarlo Stanton and Franchy Cordero homered for New York, which has lost four straight and nine of 11. The Yankees hit .171 to win just one of five games in Colorado and Anaheim.

His batting average is .218 since Aaron Judge tore a ligament in his right big toe on June 3.

Carlos Rodón (0-3) allowed six runs and four hits in 4 1/3 innings, walking five. He didn’t go over well with the New York Yankees when he blew a kiss into the crowd as he walked to the dugout with his team trailing 4-0 in the second inning.

Silseth (2-1) allowed one run and five hits in 5 2-3 innings.

For the Yankees, Venezuelans Oswald Peraza 4-0, Gleyber Torres 5-1, Oswaldo Cabrera 3-0. The Dominican Cordero 4-3 with two runs scored and one pushed.

For the Angels, Venezuelans Eduardo Escobar 4-0 with an RBI, Rengifo 2-1 with a run scored and two RBIs.
