Angelique Boyer Leads New ‘Doménica Montero,’ Joins Legacy of Iconic Actresses

The iconic saga of ‘Doménica Montero’ is set for a new chapter in 2025, with Angelique Boyer taking on the lead role. This latest iteration continues a storied legacy in Hispanic television. Before Boyer, several notable actresses left their mark portraying the powerful protagonist who battles her past, her enemies, and her own secrets.

The story’s origin traces back to 1972 with Cuban writer Inés Rodena’s Venezuelan production, ‘La Doña’. This initial version laid the groundwork for the character, which would later see multiple adaptations. The upcoming series, penned by Ximena Suárez and based on Rodena’s original work and that of Caridad Bravo Adams, promises a modern and emotionally rich melodrama.

The new ‘Doménica Montero’ is scheduled to premiere on December 8. It will air Monday through Friday at 9 PM ET/PT, 8 PM CT on Univision.

The role of Doménica Montero has been a career-defining one for many actresses over the decades. Each brought a unique interpretation to the formidable character.

Lila Morillo starred in ‘La Doña’ in 1972. This Venezuelan production by RCTV, directed by Arquímedes Rivero and produced by Román Chalbaud, was the first television adaptation of Rodena’s work. Morillo established the powerful, proud, and feared hacienda owner archetype.

Six years later, Televisa launched the first Mexican adaptation, ‘Doménica Montero’ (1978). Irán Eory took the lead, infusing the character with elegance and a strong stage presence. Her performance solidified the dramatic and romantic tone for future versions.

In 1995, Angélica Rivera led ‘La Dueña,’ a highly successful melodrama of the mid-nineties. Produced by Florinda Meza, this role cemented Rivera’s career within Televisa. Her more modern and emotionally nuanced portrayal connected with a new generation of viewers.

The story returned in 2010 with Lucero starring in ‘Soy tu dueña.’ She brought a dynamic energy and strong character, leading to massive audience ratings. It was one of the most-watched telenovelas of the year in Mexico and the United States.

Lucero’s chemistry with co-star Fernando Colunga was a key factor in its success. This dynamic could be a guiding element for the new version featuring Angelique Boyer alongside Brandon Peniche.
