The dream of a deep run for Portuguese tennis star Angelina Voloshchuk at the Porto Open faded on Friday. She faced a tough challenge in the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 tournament.

Voloshchuk, a rising talent and Portugal’s third-highest ranked player, came into the match as the underdog. Her opponent, Thailand’s Lanlana Tararudee, held a much higher world ranking at 187th. Voloshchuk herself sits at 836th in the WTA rankings.
Despite a spirited effort, Voloshchuk couldn’t overcome Tararudee. The match wrapped up in an hour and 31 minutes. Tararudee took the victory in two sets, winning 7-5 and 6-2.
This quarterfinal appearance marked a personal best for Voloshchuk in a WTA 125 event. Her strong showing was a highlight for local fans. With her exit, the tournament at the Monte Aventino Sports Complex now has no Portuguese players left. This year marks a special return for the WTA circuit to Porto. It is the first time the event has been held there since 2002.
