Rescuers have located the crash site of a missing passenger plane in Russia’s Far East. The aircraft carried 49 people, including passengers and crew. Its wreckage was found burning in the remote Amur region.
The Angara Airlines An-24 plane had vanished from radar screens. It was on a flight from Blagoveshchensk, a city near the Chinese border. Its destination was Tynda airport.
On board were 43 passengers and six crew members. Officials confirmed that five children were among those on the flight. The plane was completing a journey that began in Khabarovsk, further south in the vast region.
Governor Vasily Orlov of the Amur region quickly mobilized search teams. All available resources were put into finding the aircraft. Russian civil aviation helicopters soon spotted the burning debris. The wreckage lay on a hillside, about 16 kilometers outside Tynda. Rescue teams are now making their way to the difficult site.
