Andy Reid’s Chiefs Office Shot Last Year, Incident Kept Secret

Last year, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was working alone in his office when a terrifying incident occurred. A bullet fired from outside the building tore through the window and pierced the room.

This startling event happened at the Chiefs’ practice facilities in May 2024. Reid, who is 67, was at his desk when the shot came through. The bullet ended up stuck in a wall, right between his bathroom and the main door to his office. It was only about 4.5 meters (roughly 15 feet) from where he was sitting. Thankfully, Reid was not hit or hurt by the bullet, as a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department confirmed.

It wasn’t just Reid’s office that was hit. Two other bullets struck the Chiefs’ facility that same day. One landed on the floor above Reid’s office. Another hit an outdoor air conditioning unit.

No arrests have been made concerning the shootings. The investigation is still active. Police are working to figure out the exact spot where the shots came from.

Captain Jacob Becchina, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department, told the Kansas City Star that there’s no sign this was a targeted attack on any person or the organization. However, because people were inside the building when the bullet went through the window, the case is being investigated as an aggravated assault.

Interestingly, the Chiefs organization kept this whole situation quiet. Many players and staff members reportedly had no idea it happened until the Star broke the news on August 20th.

Shots were first heard just after midnight on May 4, 2024, according to the incident report. Night security guards told police someone heard a noise and saw what looked like a bullet hole in a window.

The shooting happened about three months after the Chiefs clinched their Super Bowl LVIII victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

For those who follow the NFL, it’s well-known that Andy Reid is a true workhorse. In the six-part ESPN docuseries, The Kingdom, now streaming on ESPN+, Reid talks about his long, demanding days. He often leaves his house around 5 AM, arriving at the Chiefs’ facility before anyone else.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has spoken about how Reid’s strong work ethic continues even during the off-season. Mahomes told ESPN last year that Reid "loves football." Mahomes explained that Reid texts him, asks questions, and checks if he likes certain plays. He simply loves being involved in the game and having fun. Mahomes added that everyone has a great time at the facility, making it hard for Reid to ever leave.

As for the Chiefs’ upcoming schedule, they are set to kick off their 2025 regular season on September 5th in Brazil, facing off against the Los Angeles Chargers.
