Android Remains Top Global Smartphone OS, HarmonyOS Surpasses iOS in China

The latest insights from Counterpoint Research have shed light on the global smartphone OS market share, revealing that Android still holds the top spot, followed closely by iOS and HarmonyOS. This trend is consistent across many countries worldwide, but a notable exception is China, where HarmonyOS has managed to surpass iOS, securing the second position in 2024. According to Counterpoint Research, this growth is expected to continue, with HarmonyOS predicted to expand its market share even further in 2025.

A closer look at the fourth quarter of 2024 reveals that Android’s market share dipped to its lowest point, accounting for 74% of the market, while iOS saw a significant increase, reaching 22%. HarmonyOS, on the other hand, maintained a steady 4% market share throughout the year. In India, Android’s market share hit a yearly low, whereas iPhone sales soared to an all-time high in the final quarter of 2024, with two-thirds of those sales coming from older models.
