Have you ever tried to renew an app subscription, only for the payment to fail? It is a common headache for many of us. But a recent report reveals that this problem hits users on one platform much harder than the other.
It turns out that if you use the Google Play Store, you are almost twice as likely to run into payment issues than someone on Apple’s App Store. This eye-opening statistic comes from a new study by RevenueCat, titled “State of Subscription Apps 2025.” This report shines a light on how app subscriptions are doing this year.
More Billing Blips on Android
The report’s data shows a clear difference. About 28.2% of canceled subscriptions on Google Play happened because of billing errors. Compare that to the App Store, where only 15.1% of cancellations were due to the same issue. These are not cancellations by choice. These are subscriptions that stop because of a glitch in the payment system. If your billing info is correct, this kind of problem should not happen.
These payment problems create headaches for everyone. As a user, it means you waste time trying to fix things. You might also lose access to important features or even data. For app developers, the consequences hit their wallet directly. They lose money and customers who might not come back after an unexpected cancellation.

Tougher Road for Android Developers
The RevenueCat study also found another interesting trend. About 30% of all annual subscriptions get canceled in their very first month. This often happens because a free trial ends, or the app simply did not meet user expectations.
When it comes to getting paying customers, Android users also tend to convert less often. This means fewer people who download an Android app actually sign up for a paid subscription. So, for app makers on Google’s system, it is already tougher to keep users and make money. Add in all those extra billing errors, and it becomes yet another big hurdle to overcome. This information is based on the RevenueCat report on app subscriptions in 2025.
