IT’S TIME TO MAKE AN ANDROID UPDATE

The new measures put in place by Google this week have certainly deprived millions of users of their applications. On the support page of the Mountain View firm, we can now read “For the sake of protecting your Google account, you cannot connect to it on a device equipped with Android 2.3.7 or earlier”. An update is therefore necessary since it is now necessary to be at least on Android 3 to use Google applications.

A NEW DESIGN FOR THE IPHONE 14

The next generation of iPhone is already talking about it and some leaks reveal that Apple intends to revolutionize the design of its smartphones with its 14 range. This is also the opinion of Ming-Chi Kuo, the analyst capable of predicting Apple’s plans months in advance or Mark Gurman, reporter at Bloomberg. The latter is convinced that the iPhone 14 will be a “completely redesigned product” and that Apple could abandon the small format version in favor of a foldable iPhone. The journalist believes that the device is under development, but that its release would not be expected for several years.

SAMSUNG REVISITS THE DESIGN OF ITS GALAXY S22 ULTRA

The first renderings that appeared on the web of the Galaxy S22 Ultra did not seduce the crowds, especially because of its rectangular and rather cold design and its rear photo unit. But the Galaxy S22 Ultra was entitled to new renderings following the details provided by the leakers. OnLeaks has indeed received a reaction from the Ice Universe leaker noting that the chassis would actually be more streamlined and uniform, going above the volume buttons instead of surrounding them. OnLeaks also offers a second version, this time with a dual photo sensor on the back. These are only hypotheses and it is still too early to know the final design of the device, but we can still hope to discover a more modern and sleek Ultra smartphone than expected.

OUR TESTS OF THE WEEK

One year after the iPhone 12, here, here is… the iPhone 13. We take stock of three models in the range: the “standard” model, the Mini and the Pro Max.

The iPhone 13 is extremely close to the iPhone 12 both aesthetically and technologically, but the improvements that have been made to it are not negligible. An elegant design, a crisp screen, a larger battery for improved autonomy. We also note the audio, photo and video improvement. The new 12-megapixel photo sensor is very bright, except when using the wide angle. We appreciate the very good optical stabilizer and the microphone on the back for stereo sound recording, but the obligation to acquire an audio accessory to enjoy spatial sound is a bad point for the iPhone. We would have liked to see a wall outlet in the box to take advantage of the 20 watt charge and a shell, even basic, to protect this beautiful smartphone.

“Mini” does not mean that the ultra-compact version of the 13 range includes lower quality components or offers second-rate services. It’s a real iPhone 13, but 24% more compact. We particularly appreciate its beautiful bright screen and its very good battery life for its small size. Unfortunately, apart from some minor software evolutions (Smart HDR 4, photographic styles…) and hardware (stabilization by moving the sensor, new SoC, double eSIM…), the iPhone 13 Mini left us a little bit hungry. Good point, however, for the major novelty of Cinematic mode.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max offers several notable improvements over previous generations: its 120 Hz ProMotion screen offers incredible navigation and responsiveness, its battery life is significantly greater, and its photo and video performance is impressive. Almost perfect, the Pro Max still has some notable flaws: Kinematic mode is not yet developed, fast charging is too slow compared to Android competitors and we were disappointed to see the increase in weight of the device. . Despite its few flaws, the iPhone 13 Pro Max easily stands out as one of the best smartphones on the market.

Xiaomi returns to the entry-level market with the Redmi 10, a smartphone sold at 179 euros. For this small price, users will be happy to discover a screen well calibrated in standard mode, and a satisfactory autonomy. Obviously, the product does not sparkle: its design is a bit cheap, fast charging is not at all and the smartphone is extremely lacking in power. Even if it could be sufficient for communication applications, we cannot recommend enough to direct you instead to the Redmi Note 10, a few tens of euros more expensive, but much better on all points.
